Purpose
The Health Services and Student Medical Benefit provide medical support for full-time students at the university to help them stay healthy and complete their education. This is not an insurance policy and doesn't cover all health issues.
To keep the plan affordable, students must first visit the Health Center for care. If needed, they will be referred to a specialist, and the visit will be authorized. Failure to follow this process will result in a financial penalty for unauthorized charges.
Domestic students with existing insurance accepted in Hawaii may choose to use their own plan. To do so, they must submit their insurance card to the Student Benefit Office during enrollment. This allows their insurance to pay first, with the Student Medical Benefit supplementing if eligible. Insurance information must also be provided to the provider to ensure proper billing. Not following this procedure may limit coverage.
Please help keep the plan affordable by following the university's process.
